The Movie: I remember liking this film quite a bit when it first came out. I think I may have even seen it twice at the theater. John Cusack stars as a top-notch professional hitman who finds himself returning to his hometown for one last job, right at the same time his 10 year high school reunion is going on. This puts him in the precarious situation of juggling his work, seeing old friends, and maybe even rekindling the old flame with his high school sweetheart who he stood up on prom night, disappearing and joining the military, never to be heard from again.

Grosse Pointe Blank has a nice mixture of action, drama, comedy, and yeah, even a bit of romance, making for what I might call a light-hearted dark comedy, if there could be such a thing. At any rate, I find this to be quite an entertaining and unique film that you should check out, if you haven't already.

The DVD: Being that this is one of those "older" DVDs (i.e. one that came out in the infancy of the format), it has an inferior video transfer, but one that is typical of other DVDs released around the same time. The picture suffers from crushed blacks, and brights that just ain't all that bright, along with some of the film grain you'd expect from a 1.85:1 aspect ratio film.

The audio is functional without much (if any) surround effects and somewhat muffled high frequencies, also consistent with one of these older DVDs. The only special feature you'll find here is a trailer.
