The Movie:
This film is actually more like a collection of seven short films, each of which comes as a response to one of seven questions about sex, ranging from "Do aphrodisiacs work?" to "Are transvestites homosexual?" and "Why do some women have difficulty achieving orgasm?". Each segment is completely independent of the rest, with different characters, set in different places, in different times, each done in a different style, or rather, more like a parody of a style. One story is set in medieval times, while another is in the style of an Italian film. You get the idea.
I was particularly amused by the segment that starred Gene Wilder as a doctor who develops a love affair for a sheep, the segment that parodied the stereotypical 1960's B horror movie with a gigantic killer breast, and the segment which shows the "control center" of a man during sexual intercourse which was something like an "Inside Herman's Head" type deal, except of course it was made 20 years before that show ever aired.
Unfortunately, the bad segments far outweighed the good, and some of the segments were decidedly unfunny and seemed to drag on forever. I was a bit disappointed by this film as I had been so impressed with some of Woody Allen's other works, even though most were 15 minutes long or less.
The DVD:
This is a dual sided disc featuring an anamorphic widescreen presentation of the film on one side, and a pan and scan version on the other. The video transfer was quite murky overall, with crushed blacks, muddled color and poor contrast, while the audio was only slightly better than the video. Special features on this disc consist of a trailer, and that, my friends, is it.
