The Movie:
Ya know, I knew this movie was going to be bad, but it actually wasn't as bad as I expected. It's about this 5 time national championship winning cheerleading squad from a high school full of rich white kids and their attempt at a 6th consecutive championship win. The snag is, they find out that all of their cheers were stolen by a previous captain from the talented but poor black kids from "East Compton" who could never afford to go to these big competition... until this year. So now the rich white girls from "Rancho Carne" (!?!?) high school in San Diego have to come up with a whole new routine. Throw in some teen movie regular plot points like the misfit new kid fitting in and the boyfriend going off to college, and you've got Bring It On.
The beginning of the movie was every bit as bad as I was expecting it to be, but towards the end, I found myself actually mildly interested in what was going on, and some of the cheerleading routines were interesting to watch. Also interesting to me was that the whole movie was shot in locations in and around San Diego (including the scenes at "Daytona Beach").
But yeah. Just go in expecting your typical teen movie dribble with the added ingredient of the cheerleading, and you'll be fine. I guess.
The DVD:
This DVD was well put together, with a clean, crisp (without unnecessary edge enhancement processing!) video transfer with beautiful, strong, bold color. The audio was clean and accurate, but expect no blockbuster surround sound tricks here. As far as extras go, there are a ton, including a couple of behind the scenes featurettes, a bunch of deleted scenes (including some alternate endings, one of which was shot at UCSD!), a trailer, a music video, audio commentary, and some other stuff that I'm forgetting, I'm sure.
