The Movie: There were only two reasons I wanted to watch this movie. And in the end, they were the only reasons to watch it. If you haven't heard, or haven't figured it out yet, I'm talking about Katie Holmes' left and right breasts. The Gift is mainly about Cate Blanchett's character, a fortune teller living in the intolerant South, whose services are reluctantly called upon to help solve the murder of a young southern belle played by Katie Holmes, who was promised to be married to Greg Kinnear. The prime suspect is the fortune-teller hating, wife-beating redneck played by Keanu Reeves.

I guess this is supposed to be a horror movie, what with all the mysticism and flashing images of decaying bodies thrown in there with loud sound cues to make audiences jump. Actually, what I did like about this movie was seeing a lot of these actors in seemingly uncharacteristic roles. Keanu is actually pretty damned believable as an intolerant wife-beating redneck.

But overall, this movie didn't have a whole lot to offer, and really the only thing that held my attention was waiting for them to finally show Katie Holmes' boobies, which of course, didn't happen until the very end.

The DVD: Like the movie, this DVD didn't have a whole lot to offer either. The video transfer was murky, with poor contrast, stepped gradients and lots of dirt and junk on the film. The audio was a bit better, but nothing to write home about. I'm actually pretty disappointed by the transfer as most movies this recent have tended to have quite good transfers as the average quality of DVDs has improved.

There really wasn't much in the way of extras either, with a theatrical trailer, and a music video for a song which I don't even remember being in the movie, being pretty much the only things offered.
