The Movie:
This is a movie people have been telling me to see for some time now. It's a hilarious movie that, while I won't say it's a parody of Star Trek and it's fans, I will say that it's definitely a good commentary on Star Trek and its fans. The premise is that the cast of a Star Trek-like T.V. show is mistaken by actual aliens for being actual space travelers. The aliens enlist the help of the TV starship crew to help them out with their own little space battle.
It's quite funny, and in many ways, and I think Tim Allen did a good job as the "captain"... I could almost imagine William Shatner acting that way if he was actually in that position. Anyway, it's a very funny story, with some great commentary on Star Trek and the geeks who love it. Check it out for some light entertainment.
The DVD:
Both the video and audio were quite impressive on this disc, and there really wasn't anything to complain about. Special features include a behind the scenes featurette, a theatrical trailer (in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio!), and some text stuff like cast/crew bios and production notes. You also get some trailers from other DreamWorks pictures like Chicken Run, Road Trip, and The Road to Eldorado, all with anamorphic widescreen video and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.
The kinda funny feature is the alternate "Thermian" audio track... with the entire movie dubbed in the language of the aliens from the movie. It's kinda cool that they would add something like that, but at the same time, kind of ridiculous that they would actually take all the time and energy to actually go through an entire movie and make unintelligible noises for it haha.
