The Movie: Chopper is an Australian film based on the writings of best-selling author Mark "Chopper" Read, notorious convict who the Netflix described as being the Australian equivalent to Billy the Kid. The tagline "Never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn" sums up this movie, which I would characterize as a dark comedy, loosely based on the true story (according to him, anyway) of Mark "Chopper" Read, who as a prison inmate struggled to become a notorious criminal.

Overall I enjoyed, this movie, though the style is somewhat inconsistent -- it starts out mainly like your typical "dark comedy" style movie, with a little twist thrown in once in a while of telling a story different points of view, but at some point near the end it suddenly breaks the fourth wall and does some other weird stuff... It was interesting, and funny at parts, but nothing too uproariously funny. I don't get to check out too much Australian cinema, so that was pretty cool. Not necessarily something I'd recommend you seek out, but at the same time, if you're looking for something different, this just might be the ticket.

The DVD: The video was of average quality, somewhat murky, exhibiting poor shadow detail. Although there is a DTS audio option, there was nothing particularly impressive about the soundtrack either apart from the occasional surround effect.

In some sense, the special features were almost more interesting than the movie itself, featuring interviews with the real Mark "Chopper" Read during the development of the film. The stories he tells are so crazy and over the top, and you really get a sense of just how great the performance given by Eric Bana as "Chopper" really was. You also get some deleted scenes, as well as a trailer.
