The Movie: This is an incredibly cute movie set on a farm in a world where animals can all speak to each other. Babe the pig shows up on this farm through some chance happenings, and "Fly", the mama sheepdog takes him in, and cares for Babe as he learns the way things work on the farm. After getting into various farm mischief, Babe discovers that he has a knack for sheep-herding and becomes known as the pig that thinks he's a dog.

You wouldn't think it would work, as most of his roles have been of the villainous type, but James Cromwell fits in to his role as the farmer perfectly. I could totally picture him as being a farmer somewhere, and he was actually nominated for an Academy Award for this performance.

So yeah, it's a cute movie that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and it's great for kids.

The DVD: There appears to be two versions of this DVD on the market, one with a DTS 5.1 soundtrack, and the others with Dolby Digital 5.1, but both seem to have a 4:3 pan and scan transfer that is fairly clean, although there are some occurrences of dust and scratches, and a few niggling compression artifacts, but an overall good image. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack I got was crisp and clean, and even had a few neat, but unobtrusive surround effects thrown in here and there. There are, however, no special features at all, at least, not on the version that I got.
