The Movie:
All you Coen brothers fans can hang me now. People were going bonkers for this movie... I personally didn't think it was all that great. A guy in debt (William H. Macy) decides to arrange to have his wife (the daughter of a very wealthy man) kidnapped and split the ransom money with the kidnappers he hires. Everything goes wrong. I really didn't think the story itself was really that great, and I think most of the appeal of this movie comes from the novelty of everybody talking with this North Dakota accent.
But obviously, a lot of people thought this movie was great, as it won two Academy Awards and was nominated for five others.
The DVD:
Fargo is presented on a dual-sided disc with a pan and scan version on one side, and an anamorphic widescreen version on the other. The transfer was generally pretty good, if grainy at times. The audio was somewhat bland, with a lot of sound positioning action going on in the front three channels but not a whole lot going on in the surround channels. The only special feature on this disc is a theatrical trailer.
