The Movie:
I rented this movie on a recommendation that someone emailed to me some time ago, but it didn't arrive at my door until this week.
I didn't like this movie at all. Frankly, I was bored most of the way through it. Many people say this is a funny movie, but I don't think I let out more than a single chuckle throughout the entire movie.
There was no real plot, and the characters were generic, shallow and poorly developed. I didn't really have much sympathy for any of the characters... maybe it was because most of their qualities that were supposed to be endearing or fully ended up annoying me instead.
As with many such movies, some people would probably say that I didn't like it because I just didn't "get it"... Perhaps if I lost a few million brain cells I'd get it, but really, I'd rather not find out.
One thing to note was that it seems that the Netflix "best bets" function seemed to work well, at least on this movie, as before I rented it, it suggested that "people like me" would rate this movie an average of 1.4 stars out of 5.
The DVD:
This a pretty crappy DVD to go with a pretty crappy movie. The video transfer no more than average, exhibiting quite a bit of noise and poor contrast. Despite being an anamorphic transfer, it also displayed a general lack of clarity.
I suppose the audio was technically 5.1 surround in format, but except for the music, it might as well have been in mono, as there was virtually no use of any sort of positioning of sound, or attempt at establishing ambient noises, except of course, for that precious soundtrack full of mid-90's alternative music.
Special features as well proved to be nearly nonexistant, with only cast bios, and a theatrical trailer (which, to its credit, was actually anamorphically encoded).
