The Movie:
Yes, you can all begin stoning me... I have never seen this movie before, even after all of the hype it got, all the awards nominations and all. Hailed as a triumph for independent film, The Full Monty was a low budget film that managed to become a huge box office draw, becoming a glimmer of hope for independent filmmakers everywhere.
So what did I think of it? I thought it was just OK. It definitely had some hilarious moments, and the city where this movie takes place is pretty depressing, but some of the strife undergone by these guys seemed kind of... convoluted... or something. I don't know.
And one thing that I was certainly disappointed by... the movie is called The Full Monty. For half of the movie, they're talking about how they are going to go the full monty. And when the moment comes... you don't get to see the full monty! What gives? This movie is rated R... would a little male frontal nudity really be all so bad? Hmmm.
So yeah. It's a fun movie, but I haven't got the same enthusiasm for it as the rest of the world seemed to have back in 1998.
The DVD:
This is a pretty basic disc, with a 1.85:1 letterboxed (nonanamorphic) transfer that is 100% average, and nothing to write home about. The same can be said for the audio as well. The only special feature to speak of is a theatrical trailer, and that's about it.
